Churros

Standard

A little bit (or a lot!) wicked, but really yum and great for the occasional treat on a Wintery night :).

This recipe makes  churros with a crispy, crunchy outside and a soft, melt in the mouth centre…..kind of perfect!

Ingredients

1 cup water

1/2 tsp salt

2 1/2 tbs sugar

2 tbs vegetable oil

1 cup plain flour

1 litre vegetable oil for deep frying

1/2 cup sugar mixed with 1 tsp of cinnamon for dipping

Method

Heat oil in a large saucepan or deep fryer to 190°C.

In a medium saucepan heat water, salt, sugar & oil until boiling then remove from heat.  Stir flour into the water mixture and beat with wooden spoon until dough forms a ball.

When oil has reached temperature, spoon dough into a piping bag fitted with a star shaped piping nozzle.  Squeeze lengths of dough out and cut of directly into oil (careful not to splash!).  Fry until dark golden brown.  Remove from oil, drain on absorbent paper then coat in sugar and cinnamon.

For real indulgence dip into chocolate dipping sauce!
